ABOUT PEACE IN PROGRESS MEDIA
Peace In Progress Media was created to publish work that tells the truth, restores dignity, and strengthens endurance. Through books, therapeutic resources, and social analysis, this platform is built to confront what harms us, honor what sustains us, and offer tools that help people think, heal, and move forward with clarity.
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of Peace In Progress Media is to create books and tools that help people think clearly, heal honestly, and live with greater dignity and strength. Some of this work is therapeutic, especially for African American children, families, caregivers, and helping professionals. Some of it is analytical, examining race, power, memory, survival, and the systems that shape daily life. All of it is rooted in truth, courage, and intention.
The Story Behind the Books
The books published through Peace In Progress Media reflect two connected commitments. The first is helping children, families, and helping professionals build self-worth, emotional strength, and cultural pride. The second is examining the deeper social and historical forces that shape how people live, struggle, and endure.
About the Founder
Craig S. Thurmond, MSW, is a writer, retired social casework specialist, retired licensed clinical social worker, and former public servant whose work is grounded in lived experience, professional practice, and a deep commitment to community endurance. With a background in social work and years of service in demanding systems of care and protection, he brings both compassion and rigor to the page.
His writing reflects a lifelong concern with trauma, resilience, identity, race, and the structures that shape human possibility. Whether writing therapeutic guides for children or larger works of social and political reflection, Craig approaches the work with honesty, moral seriousness, and a commitment to leaving readers stronger than he found them.
Vision
Peace In Progress is more than a name. It is a belief that peace is not passive, and progress is not automatic. Both require truth, discipline, courage, and care. The vision of this platform is to continue producing books and resources that help people grow stronger internally, think more clearly externally, and remain grounded in dignity while navigating a difficult world.
That is why this body of work includes both therapeutic resources for African American boys and girls and broader social analysis such as The Underground Stream series and The Stack. Though the subjects differ, the core purpose remains the same: to name what is real, to support healing, and to build something lasting from hard truth.
“My work is rooted in a simple belief: truth matters, healing matters, and dignity must be protected with intention.”
— Craig S. Thurmond, MSW
